Lucky arrived at Image of Hope Ranch after retiring from his career as a Cutting Horse. He loved his work and carried the qualities that made him exceptional — focus, steadiness, and a calm confidence that others naturally followed. Even today, those same qualities remain part of who he is. In his small herd, Lucky has quietly taken on the role of leader, guiding with a calm presence rather than force. There is something comforting about Lucky. He does not demand attention or try to prove himself. He simply shows up with consistency, and that steady presence has become a gift to the children who spend time with him.

Life, however, has brought Lucky challenges of his own. Lucky now lives with an incurable disease. While there is no cure, Image of Hope Ranch works hard to help manage his comfort through medications and care, allowing him to continue doing what he does best — helping others. Some days require a little more support than others, but Lucky continues to move forward with quiet strength. Many of the children who come to the ranch understand that kind of journey. For some, medical struggles are a significant part of life. Physical challenges, diagnoses, emotional pain, or difficulties that others cannot easily see can become something they carry every day. Learning how to navigate life while carrying those burdens can sometimes feel overwhelming. Lucky helps teach something important. Hard things may become part of our story, but they do not have to become the whole story.

Lucky continues showing up with purpose despite his challenges. He continues leading, connecting, and helping others. Through him, children can see that even when life includes pain — physically or emotionally — there is still room for joy, connection, purpose, and hope. He reminds us that resilience is not about pretending life is easy. Resilience is continuing forward, finding meaning, and allowing your life to still make a difference despite the difficulties you carry.
