Comanche
Comanche came to Image of Hope Ranch after retiring from his career as a mounted shooting horse. In the arena, he was strong, focused, and dependable — the kind of horse who gave everything he had to his rider. But what stood out even more than his talent was the bond he shared with his owner. Watching the two of them together, you could clearly see the trust, respect, and connection they had built over the years.
When it came time for Comanche to retire from mounted shooting, his owner knew one thing for certain: Comanche still needed purpose. He was not a horse meant to simply stand in a pasture and be forgotten. He still had something important to give.
And he absolutely did.
Tall, handsome, and deeply aware of those around him, Comanche quickly stepped into his new role at Image of Hope. He connects naturally not only with people, but also with the other horses in the herd. There is a quiet authority about him — the kind that does not demand attention but naturally earns it. Like an old soul, Comanche often takes on the role of leader within the herd, calmly guiding the energy around him.
He carries that same presence into his sessions with children.
Comanche has a remarkable ability to form deep and lasting bonds. Once he connects with a child, it is as though he has made a commitment to them. Children who work with Comanche often feel chosen, protected, and seen in a way that stays with them long after the session ends. He is steady when they are uncertain, calm when emotions rise, and patient when trust takes time.
There is something deeply reassuring about being near Comanche. He seems to carry the quiet message: Take your time. You do not have to face this alone.
For many children who have experienced instability, loss, or broken trust, that kind of connection can be life-changing.
Comanche reminds us that leadership is not always loud or forceful. Sometimes the strongest leaders are the ones who bring calm, create trust, and quietly guide others forward. Through his steady presence and deep connections, Comanche continues to help children discover confidence, belonging, and the courage to keep going.
"Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." — Galatians 6:2
