Boo
Before coming to Image of Hope Ranch, Boo lived an exciting life as a rodeo pony. She loved the speed and excitement of pole bending — her absolute favorite — and racing around barrels with her young rider. Together they flew across arenas as a team, trusting one another completely. Boo was dependable, athletic, and full of heart.
Then one heartbreaking diagnosis changed everything.
Boo developed glaucoma and was in tremendous pain. Out of deep love for her, her owners made the difficult decision to have her eye surgically removed so she could finally find relief. Though Boo adapted well and could still see from one eye, her rodeo days were behind her. She needed a different kind of purpose — a gentler calling.
Her owners knew exactly where she belonged.
When Image of Hope Ranch welcomed Boo, we quickly realized she had not lost her purpose at all. In fact, she may have found the role she was always meant for. Boo stepped quietly into the lives of hurting children with a tenderness that cannot be taught. Even with only one eye, Boo has a remarkable ability to truly see people.
One little girl arrived at the ranch carrying fear deep in her heart. She had already experienced more hurt in her young life than most children should ever know. During her first visit, she was invited to choose a horse to work with, but the thought terrified her. Quietly, she admitted, “What if the horse doesn’t like me?”
As she slowly walked along the fence line, trying to decide, Boo chose for her.
Boo walked directly over to the little girl and stood beside her, calm and steady, as if to say, I see you. You are safe with me. When we explained that Boo had chosen her, the little girl’s face lit up with a smile. At that moment, something shifted. The fear of rejection softened, and a connection was born. Since that day, Boo and that little girl have remained inseparable buddies.
Boo’s story reminds us that brokenness does not end purpose. Sometimes, the places where healing has touched us become the very places we help others heal, too.
